Genre for my music magazine, Key Features of the genre, Other magazines of this genre.

My chosen genre for my music magazine will be Indie pop/ Indie rock, but will cover all artists who are up and coming outside of mainstream music. My initial idea for my front cover is to have an Indie folk duet as the main image. One of the main features of a music magazine is that through the image and the ideology of the title you can immediately appeal to a certain audience. My magazine will be aimed at the same type of audience as NME. They promote bands and music from outside of the mainstream arena. A good eample of an Indie band that are successful and have featured numerous times in NME are The Arctic Monkeys. Below is a picture of the lead singer from The Arctic Monkeys whilst in his other band The Lst Shadow Puppets which identifies what their image consists of.

My initial idea for the title of my music magaine is 'Turn it on'. I hae chosen this for three reasons. Turn it on is a song by Franz Ferdinand who are a band who have been successful within my chosen genre. Secondly Turn it on connotes turning music on which is the point of this magazine. I want up and coming artists in this genre to be listened to, so mainstream doesn't take over. Finally I'm thinking of choosing Turn it on because when your trying to improve something you have to turn on your performance.

 Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher. This is a very powerful photo. It has many connotations. It is a powerful photo the connotations of the 'v' sign is that he doesn't care what anybody else thinks. The long hair and sunglasses also connote a rebelious side, which is often seen from Liam Gallagher.

 The band Franz Ferdinand. These are also an indie/rock band and this photo connotes that they are having a good time playing thier music, which is what music is about.


The Kaiser Chiefs' second album cover. As the album cover is fairly plain, it is almost like they are saying that listen to the music we need nothing else.

 Mumford and sons and their instruments. This picture shows their talent. It does this by showing the amount of instruments they can play, which shows their many talents.
